The Art of Being Human – Shambhala urban retreat
October 2 @ 9:00 am - October 3 @ 12:00 pm America/VancouverCAD 90
with Geoff Bannoff
Contact person: Paul Belserene
Saturday October 2, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
Sunday October 3, 8:30 am – noon
This urban mindfulness meditation retreat is grounded in the profound view that human beings at their core, including ourselves, are fundamentally awake and good. Shambhala Training: The Art of Being Human is a complete experience in and of itself, and it is also the foundation of the highly acclaimed Heart of Warriorship curriculum, an extensive path of training rooted in the ancient meditation practices and wisdom teachings of the Shambhala and Buddhist traditions which were created for the challenges of modern, everyday existence.
This retreat is designed for those looking to learn mindfulness meditation or deepen an existing mindfulness-awareness meditation practice.
The program consists of:
– a talk and discussion to begin each session
– meditation instruction, and guided meditation sessions
– sitting and walking meditation
– small discussion groups
Through the practice of sitting and walking meditation, we will remember our natural confidence and relax to the freshness of the present moment, no matter what that moment may bring.
If you have not attended the Heart of Warriorship retreats before, this is a wonderful opportunity to participate in these amazing meditation intensives and get a taste of the potency of the Shambhala view.
If you have completed these courses in the past, whether last year, 15 years ago, or in the 1970’s when the Heart of Warriorship was created, why not take the time to refresh and deepen your understanding by immersing yourself in these precious teachings that are core to who we are as a community and hear some of our most senior teachers speak to these teachings and our paths as peaceful warriors and meditators.
NOTE: In keeping with the Buddhist principles of not harming others or being a cause of fear to others, and in light of the increased prevalence of the delta variant, we require all participants and staff to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 to attend in-person programs over two hours long.
Geoff Bannoff has been practicing with this tradition since 1974, and teaching meditation since the early-1980s. Geoff leads monthly “Five Mornings of Sitting Meditation” programs from late-fall to early-spring. He has a particular interest in the Four Foundations of Mindfulness, and how to make meditation practice accessible to everyone who is interested.
