Shambhala Sunday Gathering – “Second Sunday” Maitri Bhavana Practice with Acharya Fleet Maull

Join us for a Sunday Gathering “Second Sunday” Maitri Bhavana Practice led by Fleet Maull, as a way for our worldwide community to come together to practice for the wellbeing of others each month. “Maitri Bhavana Second Sunday” includes a brief talk, a discussion period, and Maitri Bhavana practice. Maitri Bhavana is a regularly scheduled mahayana practice for the seriously ill, or for major global turmoil and disasters. It contains tonglen practice and may be done by anyone. If you would like to add the name of someone who is seriously ill to the maitri bhavana list so people can do practice for their wellbeing, please click here (https://shambhala.org/maitri-bhavana/). You can also add the name of a current world event where there is turmoil, strife, and disaster and we will practice for those affected.


Acharya Fleet Maull, PhD, CMT-P is an author, meditation teacher, social entrepreneur, consultant and trainer. He is an Acharya (senior Dharma teacher) in the global Shambhala Meditation Community and a Roshi (senior Zen teacher) in the international Zen Peacemaker Order. Dr. Maull founded Prison Mindfulness Institute and National Prison Hospice Association and co-founded the Peacemakers Institute, the Rwanda Bearing Witness Retreat, the Center of Mindfulness in Public Safety, and the Engaged Mindfulness Institute. He trains prisoners, business leaders, correctional officers, law enforcement and other public safety professionals in mindfulness-based approaches to wellness & resiliency. Acharya Maull was a close student and personal attendant of the founder of Shambhala, the Venerable Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and has studied and practiced for more than 47 years with some of the most prominent teachers in the Tibetan, Zen, Vipassana traditions. He has been teaching since 1981 and currently studies with Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche. He is also an IMTA certified mindfulness teacher and teacher trainer who trains mindfulness teachers in trauma-informed approaches to sharing the practice of mindfulness with at-risk individuals, vulnerable populations and marginalized and underserved communities. He is a frequent presenter at national conferences and guest lectures at universities and colleges like Harvard, Brown, Emory, Butler, Smith and others. He taught meditation, Buddhist Psychology and Socially Engaged Buddhism as a Naropa University faculty member from 1999 – 2009. He is the author of Radical Responsibility: How to Move Beyond Blame, Fearlessly Live Your Highest Purpose and Become an Unstoppable Force for Good and Dharma in Hell: The Prison Writings of Fleet Maull. He leads meditation retreats throughout the world and recently organized and hosted the Global Resilience Summit.


Please join us every Sunday for an online gathering of the Shambhala community worldwide. This online space is a place where we can practice meditation together, hear dharma teachings from a featured guest teacher, learn more about the activities of incredible people in our sangha, engage in discussion – and connect with one another, our community, and our hearts.
