Learn to love who you are. In Shambhala Training Level I: The Art of Being Human we glimpse unconditional goodness as the ground of our existence through the practice of meditation. As we open to ourselves with gentleness and appreciation, we begin to see our potential as genuine and compassionate human beings.
Every Shambhala Training level includes thorough meditation instruction, periods of meditation practice, one-on-one meetings to clarify questions, talks by a senior teacher, and group discussions.
Shambhala Training is a sequence of workshops suitable for anyone interested in exploring meditation as a means to develop fearlessness, confidence, openness, and gentleness toward ourselves and our world. You may take as much of the sequence as you wish; subsequent programs in the sequence will be scheduled according to demand.
Open to everyone, whether or not you have previous meditation experience.
Director: Kim Kelso began studying and practicing meditation in the Shambhala Buddhist tradition in 1980 and began teaching in 1992. She has been a member of several Shambhala Centers since then in British Columbia, Canada and now is a member in Phoenix, AZ. She has taught extensively in Canada, Phoenix, Tucson, and Albuquerque. She is especially inspired by the vision of Shambhala with its foundation of Basic Goodness, its path of warriorship and its notion of Enlightened Society.
Kim has a Bachelor of Social Work degree and an MA in Adult Education, Leadership and Organizational Change. In 2008, she retired from a career in social work to move to Arizona to care for her mother who recently passed on at the age of 102. She is married and lives in Yarnell, AZ where she leads a thriving weekly meditation group.
