Deepening in Compassion: The Four Limitless Ones (facilitated by Jan Snyder)

Our ongoing Monday Night with Jan series has been emphasizing contemplative and meditation practices from the Buddhist Mahayana teachings of our lineage. This class continues in that vein exploring one of the most basic teachings of the Buddha: the four immeasurables also known as the four limitless ones. These teachings begin with developing affection for ourselves and then expand this affection to others, dissolving the barriers that divide us.

These teachings on compassion emphasize a practice known as tonglen and participants will be introduced to this practice in a guided meditation and audio talk by Pema Chödrön.

About the Course

In addition to the tonglen instruction, this class provides:

  • Five recorded talks each led by a different senior Shambhala teacher.
  • Readings and book suggestions to deepen your understanding of these teachings.
  • Contemplations to help you integrate these fundamental teachings into your daily life
  • Small group discussions facilitated by Jan Snyder and Nora Wiser.
