Touching the Three Bodies of Buddha

When we talk about the three kayas, the three bodies of Buddha, we usually say that the
Nirmanakaya refers to the historical Gautama Buddha, that the Sambogakaya is the realm of the enlightened buddhas, bodhisattvas, deities, dakinis, and dralas, and that Dharmakaya is empty and ungraspable in any way. When we hear this description, which is completely true, we might ask: But what does this have to do with me?!

In this class, we will explore the deeper meaning of the trikaya. We will see how this profound view arose after the death of Gautama Buddha, developed further in the vast teachings of the Mahayana, and culminated in the Mahamudra. But more importantly, we will offer the opportunity for a direct, first-hand glimpse or recognition of what this wonderful teaching is pointing to: the illumination of our own Buddha Nature.
