Contemplative Walk along Nictaux River August 3
By walking contemplatively and quietly in the forest we become aware of, and open to, nature. Levi Cliche, an experienced guide and director of CARP, will lead us on this walk and may comment on area history and ecosystems.
This 3 km walk will take place along a mountain bike/hiking trail through a mixed riparian forest (including hemlocks) along the Nictaux River. The trail is semi-maintained, and is an easy to moderate walk, though sturdy footwear is recommended. The trail passes through land that Levi’s family has lived and worked on for several generations, and on which he has spent much time over the years. Its history provokes many thoughts about how we influence the landscape, ecosystems, and each other.
We should take measures to protect against ticks, as there are black-legged ticks in the area. A tick check after the walk is highly recommended. Also, the hemlocks in the area are, unfortunately, infested with hemlock woolly adelgid beetle so we will have brushes and lint removers available to brush your clothes and boots after the walk. It’s especially important that participants don’t go into another hemlock stand wearing the same clothing before it has been washed.
We will walk rain or shine, but not if there’s lightning forecast.
This walk is limited to 15 so please register early, and, if you need to drop out, let us know ASAP.
FEES
There is no fixed fee. Please consider making a free will offering by e-transfer to [email protected] or mailing a cheque payable to ASMG to PO Box 594, Annapolis Royal, NS, B0S 1A0. We will make a group donation to CARP with the proceeds.
