Please join us for Learn Basic Meditation Technique workshop in-person! Our two-hour workshop (9:30 – 11:30am) is designed to help start you on your journey with mindfulness:
Participants are invited to attend our future learn-to-meditate classes free of charge. Come again to share and receive support about how your meditation practice is going (or not going!).
Our workshop is taught by meditators with decades of experience:
This months teacher’s are Carol Lieberman and John Smith.
Carol Lieberman
Carol Lieberman became curious about Buddhism during many trips to Asia over the years. In Portland, she first practiced with Zen communities before discovering Shambhala and becoming likewise curious about Shambhala teachings. She was particularly attracted to the open and welcoming nature of the community. She has served as the Portland Shambhala director of practice and education, bookstore manager, and financial assistant, as well as Shambhala guide and course leader.
Carol will be assisted by John Smith:
John Smith has been a student of Shambhala since 1975, and has played many different roles in Boulder and in Portland (since 1999). He likes teaching and talking with others about meditation. He was born and raised in Puerto Rico, and has a consulting business focusing on the development and support of learning communities and their uses of technology. He likes jazz, photography, red wine, and tries to bicycle to the gym frequently.
How it Works
This introductory program is ideal for beginners as well as those who would like to stabilize and deepen their meditation experience. We offer this program once a month, on a Saturday morning or a weekday evening.
The class starts with introductions and meditation instruction, followed by alternating periods of guided meditation and discussion. Instruction focuses on both technique on the cushion and how to integrate meditation in your daily life. There will be ample time to discuss your experience and receive individualized feedback.
Location
This workshop will take place at our rental space, the Portland Dhamma Center, located at 1404 SE 25th Ave, Portland, OR. Please enter through the lower side door (photo and parking map below). The doors will lock to new arrivals 10 minutes after the start of the program.
Meditation is a refuge from wild mind and a crazy world. This practice takes bravery.
