Shambhala Sunday Gathering—Daily Life Improv: The Marriage of Meditation and Improvisation

Sunday Gatheringsare LIVE every week at 3:00 p.m. ET

Donations are welcome!

Many of the qualities we cultivate in meditation such as gentleness, fearlessness and letting go help us to trust ourselves and relax with not-knowing what will happen next. This place of ‘not-knowing’ creates space for connecting with others and responding to situations freshly, rather than habitually acting on “auto pilot.” In this way, meditation can be an excellent gateway to Improvisation which is simply the activity of making or doing something not planned beforehand.

In this gathering we shall explore a few rules of improvisation used in theatre based on principles of listening, accepting and being simple. When applied to our daily lives, these techniques can lead to more freedom and playfulness and, as the Shambhala teachings encourage us, to live in the challenge as “Warriors in the World.”
