The Shape of Awake®: Alexander Technique Workshop + Group Meditation (In-Person)

The Shape of Awake®
with Hope Martin
Alexander Technique Workshop + Group Meditation

“To take this posture itself is the purpose of our practice. When you have this posture, you have the right state of mind, so there is no need to try to attain some special state.” —Suzuki Roshi

You’re invited to join us for an Alexander Technique workshop on Sunday, November 10 at 2PM! Meditation practice will be integrated within the workshop.

Discover how being fully present and at ease in your body transforms your practice. Being upright is not just an arbitrary shape; it’s a perfect expression of meditation itself. In this workshop Hope Martin, a master teacher of the Alexander Technique, will help you access ease and non-striving in meditation and everyday activities.

Develop awareness of unconscious habits that interfere with your body’s structure and learn to find the ease, balance and buoyancy that is your birthright. Discover balanced, effortless posture – both light and grounded – by making subtle adjustments to the relationship of your head, neck and back, and self-adjust whether you’re on the meditation cushion or in front of your computer. The process teaches awareness of habits that result in pain, fixed posture and mind-set, and teaches you to shift on the spot to a more open, balanced way of being.

The workshop includes meditation instruction, experiential exercises, instruction on basic body mechanics and alignment, and hands-on guidance from the instructor to help improve your posture and release unnecessary tension in your meditation practice and in your life.

Open to meditators of all experience levels, our in-person meditation events offer us a chance to practice and study together, meet and connect with other members of our community, and refresh our sense of well-being, goodness, and sanity.

No one will be turned away for lack of funds. For more information on our generosity policy and pricing, click here.
