About Contemplative Mind, Spontaneous Brush

Starting with short guided meditations, we will tap into stillness and movement, uncover our natural gestures and rhythms, and discover personal marks and expressions. Using Japanese washi papers and high-quality sumi, you will be shown different ways to handle calligraphy brushes, adding limited colour to our exercises.

About Your Teacher

Heather has been a working artist for over 50 years, studying drawing, painting, and printmaking during her bachelor of fine arts. Heather discovered Japanese washi as an artist at Open Studio in Toronto in the 1980s. Large monotypes and collographs eventually led her to experiment directly with various handmade and heritage Japanese papers. Influenced by her Buddhist and Japanese arts studies, Heather continues to work, exhibit, and teach workshops internationally. Find out more about Heather at:
