Please join us as we continue our study of Shambhala: The Sacred Path of the Warrior, the seminal work by Chögyam Trungpa on the Shambhala teachings. Over the summer, we explored Part One of the book, “How to Be a Warrior.” Over 11 weeks this fall, we will explore Part Two, “Sacredness: The Warrior’s World” and Part Three, “Authentic Presence.”
This book study group is open to all. Participation in the summer session is NOT a prerequisite for attending the fall class. PDFs of the chapters in Part One will be available for participants who did not enroll in the summer session. A review of Part One will also be presented during the first class.
We will read and discuss one chapter of the book each week, with PDFs of the chapters provided for those who don’t already have the book. Facilitation of each class will rotate among the study group participants.
Classes will be 60 minutes except for the first one, which will be extended by a half hour to allow us time to meet one another, provide an overview of Part One of the book, and have a discussion of Chapter 11, “Nowness.”
Below is a synopsis that appears on the back of the 2015 edition of the book:
“There is a basic human wisdom that can help solve the world’s problems. It doesn’t belong to any one culture or region or religious tradition – though it can be found in many of them throughout history. It’s what Chögyam Trungpa called the sacred path of the warrior. The sacred warrior conquers the world not through violence or aggression but through gentleness, courage, and self-knowledge. The warrior discovers the basic goodness of human life and radiates that goodness out into the world for the peace and sanity of others. That’s what the Shambhala teachings are all about, and this is the book that has been presenting them to a wide and appreciative audience for more than 30 years.”
A Zoom link for course access and a schedule of the chapters by week (with PDFs of each) will be provided when you register.
