2025 Continuing Education for Meditation Instructors: The Obstacles and Antidotes to Shamatha-Vipashyana

12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. ET

About the Course

This talk is designed as continuing education for already authorized Meditation Instructors, it also is ideal for Groups and Centers to include within a mentoring program.

The fundamental practice underlying both the Buddhist path in our community, and Shambhala Training (at all levels) is shamatha-vipashyana.

Once a person decides to undertake the practice, they are predictably confronted with a series of problems. Since the time of the sūtras, these have been known as the Five (or Six) Obstacles to Shamatha. Thankfully, teachers have also, since the beginning, offered effective remedies, known in our tradition as the Eight Antidotes.

We will look closely at these lists, following commentaries by Vidyadhara Trungpa Rinpoche, and Mipham Rinpoche, with pointers to other teachings as well.

Prerequisites

For Authorized Meditation Instructors and Centre & Group Use.
