Money can be a confusing and stressful part of our lives. In this talk we will explore how the practice of mindfulness, and other meditation principles, can help us develop relaxation and confidence with our finances.
We might think of money as a solid thing that we either have or don’t have enough of. But in fact, money is a continual fluid process. We shape this process though many influences, such as our history, our parents’ beliefs, societal pressures, and our own aspirations and emotions.
Bringing the practice of mindfulness to this flow can help us let go of anxiety and bring more strength, intelligence, and creativity to how we handle our finances.
Joanne Martin Braun has a Ph.D.in Counseling, and has been a student of Buddhist and Shambhala dharma for many decades. As a trainer and non-profit administrator she got tired of always looking at money fearfully. She began investigating how applying the principles of mindfulness and awareness might lead to a reduction in stress and a more solid relationship with finances. Joanne was delighted to find that utilizing these principles helped her, and many people, to develop a much more positive relationship with money. Since that time she has engaged in over two decades of offering classes and workshops on this topic, where participants can explore using mindfulness in this very practical way.
