Shastri Janet Bronstein joined the Shambhala community in 1979 in Lexington KY, where she completed a Ph.D. in Anthropology at the University of Kentucky. She attended the 1983 Vajradhatu Seminary and has lived in Birmingham since 1984. She is a founding member of the Birmingham Shambhala Center and is currently on the faculty of the School of Public Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She has two adult daughters.
