Sadhana of Kindness
Awakening the Moon of Enlightened Society
The Sadhana of Kindness arose in the mind of Sakyong Mipham while on retreat in Nepal in 2015 and was completed in Kalapa Valley in 2017. A sadhana is a liturgical practice that helps one to accomplish an aim, in this case the cultivation of kindness in our lives and in our society. Sadhana practice includes a visualization and a mantra.
The short version of the Sadhana of Kindness has now been published by Kalapa Media. Initially, it was going to be available for personal practice only for those who have completed the Rigden Weekend. But due to the uniqueness of these times, and with the aspiration that for some it may be a helpful practice during these times, it is now available for personal practice to anyone who receives the lung, or “reading transmission.”
Receiving a reading transmission for a sadhana connects a person directly to the lineage of that sadhana and gives that person permission to practice it fully. In requesting and receiving a lung, one is not making a commitment to do the practice. However, in respect of the tradition, one would not receive a lung without having the intention to at least explore one’s personal relationship with the practice.
This Sadhana doesn’t require training, but we will do a short practice together so you can learn the melody for the mantra and be familiar with how to practice it on your own. Having received the reading transmission, you can purchase a copy of the Sadhana of Kindness from Kalapa Media and practice it at home. We will be placing a group order after the program.
Open to the public; no pre-requisites.
