Birth of the Warrior: Shambhala Training Level II and Contentment in Everyday Life
with Janet Bronstein & Marion Buckley
April 20 / 9:00 AM - May 25 / 1:00 PM
We are excited to be piloting a class in the Shambhala curriculum which melds the content of Shambhala Training Level II and its companion class, Contentment in Everyday Life. We are using a weekly class format to make the program accessible to people who cannot commit to a full weekend program, and to study and explore the teachings between sessions. An added bonus for the participants is getting “two for the price of one,” since credit for completing the six sessions will be given for both Level II and CIEL. This plan also minimizes the past problem of people wanting the Levels and IEL classes as prerequisites for further programs but having trouble scheduling all of them. The course extends over six weeks of five Saturday mornings and one full-day Saturday intensive.
In this course, we see that having experienced a taste of basic goodness in Level I, we want to learn more. Meditation practice allows us to observe how we create a cocoon of habits to mask underlying fear. We begin to appreciate that there is no fundamental obstacle to experiencing basic goodness. On this basis, we explore genuine contentment, the foundational views of the Buddhist teachings, and meditation in action for daily life. With meditation practice, we can learn to appreciate ourselves and simple human experiences, free from self-aggression. Difficult emotions and the challenges of life can be met with gentleness, steadiness, and humor.
Prerequisite: Shambhala Training Level I
Generosity Policy applies: The Birmingham Shambhala Center does not wish restricted finances ever to interfere with one’s ability to receive the teachings.
