BSC HOLIDAY PRACTICE INTENSIVE

with Acharya Gaylon Ferguson

Please join the Boulder Shambhala community for our first annual Winter Retreat.

JOINING MINDFULNESS and AWARENESS,

INSIGHT and PEACE (Shamatha track)

Our meditation path of mindfulness-awareness joins peaceful abiding (shamatha) with spacious insight (vipashyana). In this six-day intensive practice retreat, we will begin by grounding ourselves in the earthiness of mindfulness of body. Then we will sharpen innate awareness (natural wakefulness) allowing us to settle and rest beyond excessive effort (too tight) or lax laziness (too loose).

Balancing mindful stability and panoramic awareness gradually and gently opens our eyes to the dawning of the awakened heart of compassion.

THE UNION of SHAMATHA and VIPASHYANA: ESSENCE MAHAMUDRA (Tantrika track)

True mahamudra meditation is beyond all words, descriptions, concepts, and stages. It is beyond trying and not-trying, effort and non-effort. Looking directly, one sees for oneself.

Practicing guru yoga, we will listen to key oral instructions of Vidyadhara Trungpa Rinpoche in his commentary on the "Song of Mahamudra" by Jamgon Kongtrul the Great. As is said: "The heart of the path is the mahamudra of devotion."

Mahamudra meditation is the natural fruition of our mindfulness-awareness practice. Revered as a powerful support for all tantric practices, it is also extremely simple and direct, focused on recognizing and gaining confidence in the nature of mind through direct experience. This year, our practice text will be Pointing Out the Dharmakaya, the classic meditation liturgy by Wangchuk Dorje, the Ninth Karmapa.

There will also be a New Year's Eve Sadhana of Mahamudra Feast on Dec 31st for the entire Boulder community. More information to come.

Partial attendance is also welcomed. The suggested donation for one day is .
