Sureshvara (1), also called Devendra. In his right hand the ankusha (iron hook or elephant goad) symbolizing mental alertness and in his left the pasha (rope noose) symbolizing mindfulness. He is fond of sentient beings (those who are not enlightened and therefore confined to suffering, death and rebirth). Before him an exotic camel brought by a dark-skinned subject holding an elephant tusk offering as well as two monks from the Gelugpa tradition.
