Welcome to the Year of the Earth Pig!

Shambhala New Year of the Earth Pig is nearly upon us – a time when we will gather together to enjoy traditions of our warrior culture, receive direction and teachings from the Sakyong and celebrate the beginning of a new year as a global community. This year, Shambhala Day is February 16, 2018.

These annual holidays mark the rhythm of our shared culture, and provide the opportunity for us to join together. The holiday of Shambhala Day (Shambhala New Year ) is particularly associated with reflecting upon the year that has passed, and setting our intentions for the future.

This coming year is the Earth Pig Year. In the animal zodiac, pig year individuals are the most humanitarian, are selfless givers, and strive for justice and equality. They are fiercely loyal, decent, and courageous and are also magnanimous and prosperous. With the added element of earth, the energy of the pig is efficient, grounded, and vigilant.

We can all aspire to bring the generosity and stability of the Earth Pig Year into our lives and local communities this coming year and to further the critical work of Shambhala to transform fear and aggression into wisdom and compassion. The world has never needed it more.

With gratitude and inspiration,
