Journée Milarépa

Please join us for Milarepa Day on Saturday, Février 24, from 9am to 6:30pm (approximate ending time).

Please bring your « Rain of Wisdom » book, if you have one.

Milarepa Day is a celebration of the Kagyu lineage. It is marked each year on the anniversary of Milarepas parinirvana (day of his passing) by reading aloud theKagyu Gyurtso, aussi connu sous le nomLa pluie de la sagesse — a collection of dohas or songs of realization.

Translating the Rain of Wisdom
Robin Kornman, one of the founding members of the translation committee, talks about this historic translation effort.

The tradition of composing spontaneous songs that express spiritual understanding has existed in Tibet for centuries. With their vivid imagery and deep insight, these songs communicate profound and timeless wisdom. Reciting these songs aloud makes a potent connection to the devotion, courage, and depth of the Kagyu lineage. Every year, on the 14th day of the first lunar month, this collection of inspirational songs and stories is read aloud in its entirety by buddhists the world over.

One of the first translation projects that Chögyam Trungpa undertook in the mid-1970s with his newly formed group of student translators (later known as the Nalanda Translation Committee), was theKagyu Gyurtso. Their translation was published in 1980 commeLa pluie de la sagesse.

The schedule is below. Please try to come at the beginning of a session and if attending for only part of the day, plan on leaving at the breaks. Après 3:00pm, the timing can vary a little as we are reading through a book of songs and the timing is a little different each time we do it.
