If you have ever attended a practice session at the Bristol Shambhala Group it is likely that it began by reciting the Supplication to the Shambhala Lineage and you may have wondered why it is chanted and who or what are the names mentioned in it. In the Mahayana tradition it is usual to begin any practices by supplicating the lineage so as to express our faith, respect and appreciation for them having enabled our understanding of the dharma. So this supplication makes reference to teachers of the lineage who have passed on insight from their own practice and study and through which we have benefitted.
