Introducing the Global Community Council (GCC)

The Global Community Council is a new community governance body that will work alongside the Board

  • To bring the inspiration and information from segments of the Shambhala society together
  • To envision what is needed for our path forward
  • To provide a set of eyes on our finances and plans in order to ensure that resources, physical assets and opportunities are used most wisely
  • To ensure that risk is managed prudently

These are the core accountability functions of governance. The GCC is a new collaborative and representative body, which follows in the spirit of Shambhala principles and history of engaged governance.

You can find out more about the GCC in this GCC Overview document.

Participating in the GCC

It is intended that the GCC will meet together at least four times a year, or more frequently if the need arises. It is also anticipated that the GCC will appoint working groups drawn from the community to carry out some tasks on their behalf. Per the 2023 Affiliation Policies, Shambhala Global Services will provide staff support to the GCC to the extent feasible with existing resources.

Engaged community members are invited to give input and participate in shaping the Global Community Council (GCC) as a new organisational form to help ensure the good governance practices of community consultation, communication, and shared decision making in Shambhala. To this end, on June 1, 2, and 3, 2023, the GCC Working Group hosted conversations with community members about the Global Community Council. Click here to read a conversation summary.

The first members of the GCC, who will represent geographic constellations of groups and centres along with the Shambhala land centres, will take their seats at Harvest of Peace, September 30, 2023.
