Empowering Communication: The Foundation for Respectful, Honest, & Powerful Dialogue

Participants in the training will learn the foundational concepts of Empowering Communication and apply them to Self-Connection (clear self-understanding), Empathy (listening deeply to another),  and Self-Expression. They will be able to express themselves honestly and hear the essence of what another is saying. They will learn how to:
  • Differentiate language that promotes trust from language that creates division.
  • Manage one’s own strong emotions such as anger, guilt, shame, fear, and paralysis in conflict.
  • Respond constructively to strong emotions when they are present in others.
  • Hear negative messages, without hearing criticism and blame, or taking them personally.
  • Experience the increase of trust and care that emerges with heart-to-heart connection.
  • Express themselves vulnerably and honestly.
  • Prepare for and engage in dialogue with honesty and respect.
 
Date:  Saturday March 30th
Time:  9 am to 4 pm (1 hour lunch break)
Cost:  $75 but available discount if needed
Limited to 15 participants.

Guest speaker Leslie Ritter-Jenkins holds a bachelor’s degree from Carleton College, and a master’s degree from The University of Chicago Divinity School. Leslie’s studies in Bowen Family Systems and Nonviolent Communication (NVC) have provided effective tools in counseling individuals, teams and organizations.  She has been a certified trainer with the Center for Nonviolent Communication since April 2013.
