Elaine Yuen is an educator, chaplain and researcher. She has been a student and teacher in the Shambhala community since the early 1970’s, and has been a Philadelphian since 1980. Between 2012 and 2020 she was a professor at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado where she taught courses on pastoral caregiving (chaplaincy), contemplative education and Buddhist studies. Elaine is deeply interested in how we shape our social interactions with caring and authentic presence. Martin Smith has been a student and a member of the Shambhala community for over ten years. He is passionate about building communities, creating bridges across differences, and creating a container for people to grow and be their best selves. He lives in the Allentown area of PA with his wife and three children. He is an architect licensed in NY state who currently works for NCARB as the Assistant Vice President, Policy + International Relations. His role is to lead the development and oversight of experience requirements for licensure as an architect, train and grow the architect licensing advisors community, and engage students, licensure candidates, and architects through outreach for NCARB.
