Maitri Five Wisdoms
with Richard John
June 7 / 7:30 PM - June 9 / 5:30 PM
According to Buddhist teachings conflicting emotions can be the source of tremendous suffering or the basis for discovering our true nature, depending on how we work with our mind. With practice we can begin to relate to our emotions with compassion and skill, transforming neurosis into greater wisdom and freedom.
Maitri Five Wisdoms is an interactive meditation practice created by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, based on the traditional Buddhist principles of the Five Buddha Families.
Maitri, which means “kindness to oneself and others,” is a practice of self-acceptance, awareness, and openness to sense perceptions. The practice is available to practitioners at all levels, and has been used for many years at Naropa University in Colorado for in-depth training in Buddhist psychology and creative expression.
In this weekend program we will use meditation, postures, colors, and open conversation to investigate these energies in a direct and personal way.
There will be a "Padma" Event on Saturday Evening, it is part of the program, so everyone should attend if at all possible!
Acharya Richard John: Acharya John was an early student of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. He teaches Maitri and other Shambhala Buddhist programs throughout the US, Canada and Mexico. He completed the first three-year group retreat at Gampo Abbey in Nova Scotia. Richard and his wife Liz reside in Halifax.
The program is open to anyone who has attended any programs at a Shambhala Center, or who has a connection to a member of a Shambhala.
